Movement joints are needed in bridges to accommodate longitudinal expansion and contraction. Enough joint width needs to be available to accommodate not only longitudinal expansion but also expected movements of joints during earthquakes.…
Cracks in clayey soil cause a reduction in the seismic loading capacity which can lead to structural failures. Seismic acceleration is the primary cause of crack propagation and damage to the earth's structure. This study investigated the…
Base isolation is a widely-used method used to minimise the harmful effects of earthquakes on buildings. Unlike a fixed base building, a building with a base isolation system essentially decouples the superstructure from the substructure…
Preservation of historical constructions, and passing it on to future generations, is a major issue in modern societies. Earthquakes are one of the major causes of damages to heritage buildings across the world. The city of Sobral (Ceará…
It can facilitate the understanding of the mechanical properties and failure laws of rocks to research on the rock failure mechanism and evolution characteristics of Acoustic Emission (AE). Under the concentrated loading condition, the…
The stability of any structure is possible if foundation is appropriately designed. The Bandar abbas is the largest and most important port of Iran, with high seismicity and occurring strong earthquakes in this territory, the soil…
Earthquakes can cause vibration problems in many types of structures, generating large displacements. The interstory drift is a design criterion very used in seismic analysis and the structural control is an alternative to reduce these…
Ground steel storage tanks are widely used in different industries. Regarding the significance of these structures, ensuring the proper performance of such structures in earthquakes needs evaluating their seismic performance. The present…
The current seismic prevention strategy is based on a unitary approach aimed at a risk mitigation, also at territorial level. The Italian guidelines for the assessment and mitigation of seismic risk of cultural heritage provides…
The safety of dams is a priority at the international level, based on a large amount of data from a dam-reservoir allows analysts to make optimization on its structural stability, the latter is based on the estimation of the probability of…
Static and dynamic behavior of above-ground steel storage oil tanks resting on end bearing piles or stone columns are studied and analyzed using ADINA (2019) program. The studied soil profile is an upper soft clay soil layer, followed by…
This paper assesses a hybrid bracing system involving concentric steel bracing in combination with friction dampers to improve seismic performance in steel moment frame buildings. Three prototype (5, 10, and 15 stories) steel moment frame…
Structures subjected to severe loads, such as earthquakes, often develop cracks at the beam-column joints, underscoring the significance of these regions in design. This study focuses on a comparative analysis of beam-column joints…
