The presence of notches and other stress concentrations in turbine blades and other notch hydraulic components is a current problem in engineering. It causes a reduction of endurance limit of material. In that sense, specimens of the ASTM…
This article deals with identifying defects of layered high strength steel materials with the help of tomography measurement. Test samples were made of S960 High Strength Steel to which layers of either aluminium bronze, hardchrome, cobalt…
This work presents an in-depth study of the low-cycle fatigue behaviour of ferritic-pearlitic HSLA-420 high-strength steel sheets, with emphasis on the influence of loading direction on fatigue life and damage mechanisms. Plastic…
Components and structures are designed based in their material’s mechanical properties such as Young's modulus or yield stress among others. Often those properties are obtained under monotonic mechanical tests but rarely under cyclic ones.…
The goal of this work is to propose a general mechanism for hydrogen induced crack initiation in steels based on a microstructural study of multiple steel grades. Four types of steels with strongly varying microstructures are studied for…
The paper analyses the fatigue tests of a specimen made of 16Mo3 steel and 6082-T6 aluminium alloy performed under bending and tensile conditions. It has been shown that in the case of bending of the 16Mo3 steel specimen, in low cycle…
Starting from the research aimed at the development of substitute alloys for stainless steels, with the aim of replacing strategic metals such as chromium and nickel with the more available manganese, FeMnAlC alloys have been studied and…
Surface texturing plays a significant role on the tribological performance of contact surfaces. The tribological characteristics are mostly dependent upon the different pattern and methods of surface texturing. This research works…
The selective laser melting (SLM) technology is widely used to manufacture 316L stainless steel (SS) components for industrial applications. To understand the microstructure and the mechanical properties of additively manufactured 316L…
Brittle fracture in carbon steel has a serious impact on the safety of steel structures. Thus, technology that arrests crack propagation is the final line of protection for such structures. It is such an important issue that conditions…
Nowadays, an increasing number of oil and gas transmission pipes are constructed with high-strength low alloy steels (HSLA); however, many of these pipelines suffer from different types of hydrogen damages, such as hydrogen-induced…
This work is devoted to the development of an experimental method for studying the energy balance during cyclic deformation and fracture. The studies were conducted on 304 stainless steel AISE and titanium alloy OT4-0 samples. The…
