Due to the peculiar graphite elements shape, obtained by means of a chemical composition control (mainly small addition of elements like Mg, Ca or Ce), Ductile Cast Irons (DCIs) are able to offer the good castability of gray irons with the…
In the present work, the influence of alloying elements, on the mechanical characteristics and wear behavior by modification of the chemical composition of the ductile iron was studied, in order to improve these characteristics for the…
The first stage of this study investigates the precipitation of free ferrite from the austenite on fully austenitized ductile iron. Several sets of samples of low alloy ductile iron are fully austenitized and then cooled down to different…
In the last decades, damaging micromechanisms in ductile cast irons (DCIs) have been widely investigated, considering both the matrix microstructure and the loading conditions influence. Considering the graphite nodules, they were…
The analysis of the damaging micromechanisms in Ductile Cast Irons is often focused on ferritic matrix. Up to ten years ago, for this grades of DCIs, the main damaging micromechanism was identified with the graphite elements – ferritic…
Ductile cast irons (DCIs) are characterized by a wide range of mechanical properties, mainly depending on microstructural factors, as matrix microstructure (characterized by phases volume fraction, grains size and grain distribution)…
In this paper an automatic procedure based on a machine learning approach is proposed to classify ductile cast iron specimens according to the American Society for Testing and Materials guidelines. The mechanical properties of a specimen…
Focusing on ferritic-pearlitic DCIs, these alloys are characterized by a microstructure that ranges from a fully ferritic to a completely pearlitic matrix, and they are widely used for many applications (e.g. wheels, gears, crankshafts in…
The goal of this work is to improve the understanding of the relation between the microstructural characteristics of Intercritical Austempered Ductile Cast Iron (IADI) and the damage micromechanisms observed during its tensile loading. The…
Increased material demand in all sectors is primarily due to exponential growth in population to fulfill human needs and comforts. Recycling of collected aluminium beverage cans and Al 6061 alloy scraps from industries ensures energy…
A new class of material characterized by mechanical properties close to the traditional low and medium carbon steel is the Ductile Cast Irons (DCIs). High castability and low production costs allow them to be used in many fields, ranging…
In the article the deformation of different steels is analyzed using the autowave theory of plasticity. The article considers the possible use of an autowave model to formulate criteria for the structural strength of materials and…
