In the maintenance work of cable configurations, which have limitations such as cables in cable-stayed bridges, suspenders in suspension bridges, and hangers in arch bridges, tension on the cables is required. The safety of the cable is…
This paper describes the application of SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) materials to enhance the passive damping of GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) laminated composite. The SMA has been embedded as reinforcement in the GFRP laminated…
In this paper, an approach is proposed that allows for the selecting of the parameters of the shunt circuit that provide multimodal damping of vibrations for the corresponding piezoelectric element location. This technique is based on a…
In a variety of MEMS applications, the thin film of fluid responsible of squeeze-film damping results to be rarefied and, thus, not suitable to be modeled though the classical Navier-Stokes equation. The simplest way to consider fluid…
The experimental study presented in this research was conducted to understand the performance of rubberized concrete columns under axial loads and numerically analyze the conduct of rubberized reinforced concrete (RRC) columns under cyclic…
Sandwich panels with polymer composite and light core composites are widely used in aircraft and spacecraft, vessels, trains, submarines, and cars. Due to their high strength to weight ratio, high stability, and high corrosion resistance…
This work primarily aims to carry out a numerical assessment of the seismic vulnerability of the historical Rammed Earth (RE) remains of the enclosure of Mansourah, a small town in the Wilaya (Province) of Tlemcen, in northwestern Algeria.…
This paper assesses a hybrid bracing system involving concentric steel bracing in combination with friction dampers to improve seismic performance in steel moment frame buildings. Three prototype (5, 10, and 15 stories) steel moment frame…
Ultrasonic vibrothermography is an effective and non-destructive method, which can be used for a quick detection of coating defects on large surfaces. Mechanical excitation of a layered structure induces inelastic deformation and, as a…
A quasi-static approach for an interface damage model, incorporating Rayleigh damping for viscoelastic carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites, is introduced. The interface traction-relative displacement behavior is modeled using a thin…
This brief introduction describes the mechanical, rheological and magnetic properties of the magnetorheological (MR) fluids for feasible engineering applications. The typical modes of exploiting this technology are shown and discussed. An…
The use of Areca sheath in developing a newer composite material is proposed in this article. The Areca sheath particulates are extracted by pulverizing long sheaths into different sizes of particulates and are reinforced into the epoxy to…
