Metallic structural components, placed in contact with other bodies while experiencing vibrations in operating conditions, are susceptible to fretting, which can have a significant impact on their fatigue performance. Although extensive…
The investigation of multiple crack interactions in fracture mechanics is important to predict the safety and reliability of structures. This paper introduces a numerical investigation used to calculate the J-integral of the main crack…
A mixed-mode geometry has been chosen to investigate a crack propagation using the multi-parameter fracture mechanics concept. The so-called Williams’ series expansion is used for the crack-tip stress field approximation. It has been shown…
Fatigue cracking of longerons manufactured from Al-alloy AVT-1 for helicopter in-service rotor-blades was considered and crack growth period and equivalent of tensile stress for different blade sections were estimated. Complicated case of…
This paper investigates the variations of mode I stress intensity factor (KI) for inner penny-shaped and circumferential cracks in functionally graded solid and hollow thick walled cylinders, respectively with the changes of crack…
The minimum plastic zone radius (MPZR) criterion is one of the recent criterions to estimate crack initiation direction under mixed mode loading. The MPZR theory is based on the theoretical computations of plastic zone size (PZS). In this…
Fitness-for-service assessment of a cracked component intends to evaluate its remaining strength and remaining life to support the implementation of a maintenance plan. This research aims to develop a fitness-for-service assessment…
Ultra-high-strength steels (with tensile strength higher than 980 MPa) are widely used in automobile manufacturing owing to their lightweight that contributes to fuel efficiency. The fatigue strength of ultra-high-strength steels with a…
Pipelines are considered as a major tool to transport hydrocarbons due to its important role in transporting fluids taking into account the operating conditions. Despite the importance of the elbow which considered as a critical part in…
The material with anisotropic properties are becoming widely essential due to the ease to manipulate their mechanical properties in order to obtain a particular quality, insure safety or a specific behavior. Those kind of materials are…
In the last decade, several studies have been introduced to the development and use of compressed earth blocks in green building construction. Studying the evaluation of existing cracks in construction builders by these blocks is an…
Ultrasonic vibrothermography is an effective and non-destructive method, which can be used for a quick detection of coating defects on large surfaces. Mechanical excitation of a layered structure induces inelastic deformation and, as a…
