A Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), in the course of a training flight, leaving the ground during the taxi to take off, went into an uncontrolled rolling to the right; consequently the helicopter gradually laid down on the right side. The…
The fivefold symmetric modular stellarator Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) is currently under construction in Greifswald, Germany. The superconducting coils of the magnet system are bolted onto a central support ring and interconnected with five…
Foams and porous materials with cellular structure have many interesting combinations of physical and mechanical properties coupled with low specific weight. By means of replication casting it is possible to manufacture foams from molten…
In the present work, a new model of the FRP-concrete or masonry interface, which accounts for the coupling occurring between the degradation of the cohesive material and the FRP detachment, is presented; in particular, a coupled…
This paper proposes an efficient methodology to monitor the formation of cracks in concrete after non-destructive ultrasonic testing of a structure. The objective is to be able to automatically detect the initiation of cracks early enough…
The linear elastic analysis of homogeneous, isotropic cracked bodies is a Twentieth Century development. It was recognised that the crack tip stress field is a singularity, but it was not until the introduction of the essentially two…
In this work, the structural behavior of masonry buildings under flash flood actions is analyzed by using a novel 3D multilevel fluid/structure model. The proposed numerical framework consists of a macro-scale model based on the…
The quickly identify of fatigue limit of a mechanical component with good approximation is currently a significant practical problem not yet resolved in a satisfactory way. Generally, for a mechanical component, the fatigue strength…
During the braking phase, the heat produced by friction between pads and disc cannot be entirely dissipated. Consequently, the brake disc, especially if very hard braking occur, can accumulate large amounts of heat in a short time so…
In this paper, we consider the mechanical effect of the sulfate attack on concrete. The durability analysis of concrete structures in contact to external sulfate solutions requires the definition of a proper diffusion-reaction model, for…
This study has used the strain energy density (SED) approach to evaluate the stress intensity factor (SIF) of cracked cruciform welded joints in Hardox 450 steel. A microstructural analysis was made of Hardox 450 steel which is composed of…
This work is devoted to the application of the micromechanical Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) model to study the ductile tearing of 12NiCr6 steel. GTN model is widely used to describe the three stages of ductile tearing: nucleation…
Numerical investigations of the propagation of rolling contact fatigue crack filled by the liquid have been conducted. Two models of fluid – crack interaction have been considered. In the first model called “hydrostatic” the assumption of…
TIG-dressing is a technique used to improve the fatigue strength of welded joints by a remelting of the weld toe region that promotes both a smoother transition between the plate and the weld crown and a residual stress redistribution.…
Belarusian Potash salt deposits are bedded under aquifers and unstable soil stratums. Therefore, to develop the deposits a vertical mine shaft sinking is performed using the artificial ground freezing technology. Nowadays, real time…
The paper investigates the fatigue crack growth in typical bridge weldments by means of numerical analysis. The extended finite element (XFEM) method is coupled with the low-cycle fatigue (LCF) approach in ABAQUS, and parametric analyses…
Hybrid metal matrix composites (MMCs), recognized for their superior strength-to-weight ratios and synergistic property enhancements, are emerging as advanced materials capable of mitigating the inherent limitations observed in…
This paper provides a finite element analysis of laminated composite plates under the action of a moving vehicle. The vehicle is modeled as a rigid body with four suspension systems, each consisting of a spring-dashpot. Overall, the…
Structures subjected to severe loads, such as earthquakes, often develop cracks at the beam-column joints, underscoring the significance of these regions in design. This study focuses on a comparative analysis of beam-column joints…
Additive manufacturing (AM) is a promising way to produce complex structures by adding layers. It arises great interest both in industrial and academic sectors to develop new advanced structured material. To benefit from its advantages, it…
