This paper analyses the influence that the type of geometry used to obtain the stress/strain fields in a cylindrical contact has on fretting fatigue life predictions. In addition, this work considers the effect that the fatigue crack shape…
Crack closure concept has been widely used to explain different issues of fatigue crack propagation. However, different authors have questioned the relevance of crack closure and have proposed alternative concepts. The main objective here…
Due to their simplicity, cohesive zone models (CZMs) are very attractive to describe mixed-mode failure and debonding processes of materials and interfaces. Although a large number of coupled CZMs have been proposed, and despite the…
In this work different strategies to estimate crack path for cylindrical contacts under fretting conditions are carried out. The main goal is to propose and to evaluate methodologies not only to estimate the direction of crack initiation…
Tibia is one of the bones that often fracture, generally occurring due to a car accident, falling from high places, work accidents, and sports injuries. Internal fixation is one of the solutions to repair broken bones. In some cases…
The purpose of this work is to study three different models of delamination in composite plate (the free mode model, the constrained model and the contact model) and applicability of this models to the vibrational method of damage…
When studying mechanical behavior of structures made of laminated polymer composite materials, issues related to their relatively high susceptibility to damage, such as delamination, fiber breakage and matrix failure, play significant…
Results of a double-shear single-dowel wood connection tested under monotonic quasi-static compression loading are presented and discussed in this paper. The wood used in this study was a pine wood, namely the Pinus pinaster species, which…
In recent years the implementation of the electric engine in the automotive industries has been increasingly marked. The speed of the electric motors is much higher than the combustion engine ones, bringing transmission gears to be…
Numerical investigations of the propagation of rolling contact fatigue crack filled by the liquid have been conducted. Two models of fluid – crack interaction have been considered. In the first model called “hydrostatic” the assumption of…
The ultimate goal in hot roll pass design is to manufacture a rolled product with the required dimensional accuracy, defect free surface, and mechanical properties. The proper selection of process parameters is crucial to meet increasing…
In this paper a macro-block model accounting for frictional resistances is presented to assess the lateral strength of a multi-storey masonry block wall. The kinematic approach of limit analysis is used to define the load factor causing…
The Boussinesq solution, one of the fundamental problems in the theory of elasticity, enables an analysis of stresses and strains (displacements) in a semi-elastic space subject to surface loads. This solution has a form of formulas for…
