In this work has been estimated the compressive strength of a unidirectional lamina of a carbon/epoxy composite material, using the cross-ply and angle-ply laminates. Over the years various methods have been developed to deduce compressive…
The built-in heterogeneity of the composite laminates has been exploited to tailor the stiffness and strength requirements of modern structures to meet the specific functional demands. However, the non-homogeneity in these composites is…
In this paper, a numerical home-made finite element model for the failure analysis of bolted joints between fiber-reinforced composite laminates is presented. The model is based on an incremental displacement based approach, it is hinged…
Damage detection in composite materials is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of engineering structures. Conventional methods often face challenges in accurately identifying damage in plate-like structures, particularly in…
The composite materials are normally made of reinforcements and resins. High-performance composites are generally termed hybrid composite materials. Generally, fiber-reinforced composite laminates are very weak in their out-of-plane…
The present study investigates the influence of hybrid interleaving technique using Glass and Carbon veils to improve the mode-I fracture toughness in Glass epoxy laminates. Commercially available non-woven Carbon and Glass veils with…
A method for assessing the degradation of mechanical properties of neat polyetheretherketone and its laminated composite reinforced with unidirectional carbon fibers is proposed. It is based on the calculation of the maximum and minimum…
This study investigates the effect of interleaving non-woven veils and their surface areal density on the curved beam strength (CBS) and interlaminar radial stress (ILRS) of glass/epoxy L-bend composite laminates. Carbon veils with areal…
During the last years many researchers put so much effort to design layered structures combining different materials in order to improve low fracture toughness and mechanical reliability of the ceramics. It has been proven, that an…

Industry needs new materials that present very high structural characteristic, such as high strength, low weight and high damage tolerance. To obtain these characteristics a new class of materials has been introduced: Fibre Metal Laminate…
The present investigation deals with the characterization of tensile behavior of various Fiber Reinforced Polymer composites under Thermo-Mechanical loading. Five different types of Uni-Directional (UD) composites of Carbon, Glass…
Understanding the failure modes of damaged or cracked structures and repaired by bonding a composite patch is an essential point to improve its resistance to failure and subsequently extend its service life. In the present study, a 3D…
This work is about study of the mechanical behaviour of unidirectional Kevlar / Epoxy composite laminates according to different failure criteria. Varying strength parameters values, makes it possible to compare the ultimate mechanical…
A quasi-static approach for an interface damage model, incorporating Rayleigh damping for viscoelastic carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites, is introduced. The interface traction-relative displacement behavior is modeled using a thin…
The core of the present work concerns the analysis of the failure mode and the fracture process induced by the flexural load in Fibre Metal Laminates (FMLs). The influence of the connection layer placed between the composite ones and the…
The widespread use of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites in sectors such as aerospace and aviation calls for the adoption of sustainable recycling protocols. This research evaluates the mechanical and tomographic…
Composite laminates subjected to low-velocity impact events on the through-thickness direction are conveniently studied and disseminated in the open literature. However, in terms of laminated cylindrical shells this subject is less common.…
In this work the mechanical behaviour of a core reinforced composite sandwich structure is studied. The sandwich employs a Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) orthotropic material for both the two external skins and the inner core web. In…
This study analyses the failure mechanisms of bilayer hybrid composites, consisting of carbon and glass fibres embedded in an epoxy matrix, under bending loads. The objective is to evaluate how different hybrid configurations influence…
New biomedical supportive and lightweight structures require the creation of sustainable polymer composites of high strength and wear resistance. This research explores the use of alkali-treated pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) reinforced epoxy…
The objective of this work was to characterize the full-field flexural behavior of composite sandwich beams. Finite element analysis was used to estimate the behavior of sandwich beams under three- and four-point-bending tests and were…
In the present work, the fracture resistance of a carbon fiber composite under mode I and mode II loading have been experimentally determined. For the mode I and II, the energy release rate G has been determinate for each material. In some…
