This study represents a methodology to assess the probability of failure based on three the driving force formulations defined by the corresponding brittle and ductile fracture criteria for compact and bending specimens made of 34XH3MA and…
Brittle fracture in carbon steel has a serious impact on the safety of steel structures. Thus, technology that arrests crack propagation is the final line of protection for such structures. It is such an important issue that conditions…
Crack formation in hemispherical domes is a distinguished problem in structural mechanics. The safety of cracked domes has a long track record; the evolution of the cracking pattern received less attention. Here, we report…
Elastic fracture mechanics commonly defines the fracture resistance of brittle materials within an idealised picture of planar and traction free cracks. An efficient approach to describe the interface conditions in real cracks, such as…
The phenomenon of ignition and explosive failure of specimens from high-entropy alloys (HEAs) of systems Ti-Zr-Hf-Ni-Cu, Ti-Zr-Hf-Ni-Cu-Co at quasi-static compression tests was found. It physical model is proposed. It is exhibited that the…
Most techniques of measuring the stress intensity factor (SIF) in the cracking process assume a crack in a planar medium. Currently, there is no effective approach for curved brittle shells, particularly for non-developable cases, i.e.…
Abstract. In this article, the effect of nano-clay particles and heat-treating on thermo-mechanical fatigue (TMF) behaviors and failures of piston aluminum-silicon (AlSi) alloys was investigated. For this purpose, thermo-mechanical fatigue…
Composite materials application areas have gradually grown, allowing them to reach and conquer new markets from consumer products to specialized niche applications, advanced composite materials make up a significant portion of the…
Rebar corrosion significantly affects the overall performance and the service life of reinforced concrete (RC) structures due to the reduction in the bond strength between concrete and rebar, leading to the delamination of the concrete…
This paper presents a refined Finite Element (FE) modeling strategy for analyzing the failure behavior of regular masonry structures reinforced with timber-based retrofit solutions. The proposed model schematizes the masonry as brick…
The impact behaviour of 6061 alloy with trace amount of 0, 0.04, and 0.08 wt.% Sn was studied in the as-cast (AC), as-roll (AR) and peak-age roll (PAR) processing state. Additionally, the fracture mechanism was also studied in the AC and…
The analysis of fracture processes which led to shear failure in reinforced concrete beams without transverse reinforcement was performed on the basis of test results from the author’s own experimental investigation and numerical…
Our research described in this paper focused on fabricating and characterising polylactic acid (PLA) composites reinforced with randomly dispersed boron nitride nanoplatelets (BNNP). The integrated experimental analysis with the Finite…
Equivalent single layer theories for layered beams effectively and accurately predict global displacements and internal force and moment resultants using a limited number of displacement variables. However, they cannot reproduce local…
The use of elastomers has become increasingly important in a variety of industries, including automotive, medical, and food packaging. The adaptability of elastomers to different mechanical stresses has made them a popular choice for these…
A methodology of experimental research on hydrogen embrittlement of pipe carbon steels due to the transportation of hydrogen or its mixture with natural gas by a long-term operated gas distribution network is presented. The importance of…
The role of some geometrical characteristics of the notches machined in circular discs, in order to determine the mode-I fracture toughness of brittle materials, is discussed. The study is implemented both analytically and numerically.…
A double cantilever beam geometry has been chosen in order to investigate the importance of the higher-order terms of the Williams’ power expansion for the crack path estimation. The crack propagation has been tested experimentally on a…
Diffusion welding is an advanced joining process that assures the feasibility of joining dissimilar metal alloys without producing metallurgical impurities at the joint interface. Two significant aerospace alloys, AA2219 and Ti-6Al-4V, are…
We propose a method of construction of non homogeneous solutions to the problem of traction ofa bar made of an elastic-damaging material whose softening behavior is regularized by a gradient damage model. We show that, for sufficiently long…
When we want to compare the strength of two materials, we compare the table values of quasistatic strength. However results of some experiments show that the strength ratio of the materials can change with increase in rate of loading. Such…
Variational principle of brittle fracture mechanics is employed to predict the crack path in an infinite wedge under a concentrated tensile force. The weight function in basic equation of variational problem is assumed to be proportional…
The paper analyses the fatigue tests of a specimen made of 16Mo3 steel and 6082-T6 aluminium alloy performed under bending and tensile conditions. It has been shown that in the case of bending of the 16Mo3 steel specimen, in low cycle…
