Multiaxial fatigue behavior is an important topic in critical structural components. In the present study the biaxial-planar fatigue behavior of a powder metallurgical TRIP steel (Transformation Induced Plasticity) was studied by taking…
In order to correctly assess the biaxial fatigue material properties one must experimentally test different load conditions and stress levels. With the rise of new in-plane biaxial fatigue testing machines, using smaller and more efficient…
The paper describes the key principles and results of preliminary experiments aimed at the development of new technique for the fatigue life prediction under conditions of biaxial cyclic tension. The foundations of the method were…
Welded joints are frequently locations for cracks initiation and propagation that may cause fatigue failure of engineering structures. Biaxial or triaxial stress-strain states are present in the vicinity of welded joints, due to local…
Fatigue lifetime assessment is essential in the design of structures. Under-estimated predictions may result in unnecessary in service inspections. Conversely, over-estimated predictions may have serious consequences on the integrity of…
AISI 304L stainless steel specimens have been tested in fatigue. The tests were axial, torsional and in-phase biaxial, all of them under load control and R=-1. The S-N curves were built following the ASTM E739 standard and the method of…
A computational simulation of low-cycle fatigue behaviour of lotus-type porous material, subjected to biaxial in-phase loading cycles is presented in this paper. Fatigue properties of porous materials are less frequently published in the…
Sensitivity to small defects under torsional fatigue loading condition is examined in the high cycle fatigue regime. Fatigue crack initiation and small crack growth behaviors were observed during fatigue testing and fractographic…
This paper studies multiaxial low cycle fatigue crack mode and failure life of Ti-6Al-4V. Stress controlled fatigue tests were carried out using a hollow cylinder specimen under multiaxial loadings of ?=0, 0.4, 0.5 and 1 of which stress…
This paper gives a highlight about pressure vessel (PV) methods of design to initiate new engineers and new researchers to understand the basics and to have a summary about the knowhow of PV design. This understanding will contribute to…
The very high cycle region of the S-N fatigue curve has been the subject of intensive research on the last years, with special focus on axial, bending, torsional and fretting fatigue tests. Very high cycle fatigue can be achieved using…
Fatigue surface crack growth and the in-plane and out-of-plane constraint effects are studied through experiments and computations for aluminium alloy D16T. Subjects for studies are cruciform specimens under different biaxial loading and…
A new fatigue testing device has been developed to test specimens under biaxial loading at 20 kHz. A flat smooth specimen with a disc geometry is placed on a torus frame and cyclically loaded at the center of its upper face. Disc bending…
Multiaxial high cycle fatigue is a topic that concerns nearly all industrial domains. In recent years, a great deal of recommendations how to address problems with multiaxial fatigue life time estimation have been made and a huge progress…
Most mechanical components are subjected to the complex fatigue loading conditions, where both amplitude and direction of loading cycles change over the time. The estimation of damage caused by these complex loading scenarios are often…
In this paper a methodology for evaluating crack initiation under biaxial conditions is presented. The methodology consists of evaluating the crack length automatically with digital processing of highmagnification images of the crack. The…
Most mechanical components experience multi-axial cyclic loading conditions during service. Experimental analysis of fatigue cracks under such conditions is not easy and most works tend to focus more on the simpler but less realistic case…
This investigation revisits biaxial fatigue experiments carried out with the nickel-based superalloy termed Waspaloy. Recently, yield criteria extended to multiaxial fatigue and stress based approaches were analysed and their performance…
The CJP model of crack tip stresses is a modified version of the Williams crack tip stress field which takes account of simplified stress distributions that arise from the presence of a zone of plastic deformation associated with the crack…
Multiaxial fatigue failure criteria are formulated in time and frequency domain. The number of frequency domain criteria is rather small and the most popular one is the equivalent von Mises stress criterion. This criterion was elaborated…
Fatigue fracture surfaces of Al-based alloys with fatigue striations pattern and such wear debris pattern as spherical particles were investigated fractographically, on the bases of the OG’e spectroscopic analysis. The sequence of events…
