We analyse the problem of a simply supported steel beam subjected to uniformly distributed load, strengthened with a pre-stressed fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminate. We assume that the laminate is first put into tension, then bonded…
In this work the mechanical behaviour of a core reinforced composite sandwich structure is studied. The sandwich employs a Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) orthotropic material for both the two external skins and the inner core web. In…
The Boussinesq solution, one of the fundamental problems in the theory of elasticity, enables an analysis of stresses and strains (displacements) in a semi-elastic space subject to surface loads. This solution has a form of formulas for…
The paper deals with the three-dimensional nature and the multi-parametric representation of the stress field ahead of cracks and notches of different shape. Finite thickness plates are considered, under different loading conditions. Under…
For wedge splitting test specimens, the stress and displacement fields both in the vicinity and also in larger distance from the crack tip are investigated by means of numerical methods. Several variants of boundary conditions were…
An analytical study of longitudinal fracture in two-dimensional functionally graded cantilever beam configurations is carried-out with taking into account the non-linear behavior of material. A longitudinal crack is located arbitrary along…
The Strong Formulation Finite Element Method (SFEM) is a numerical solution technique for solving arbitrarily shaped structural systems. This method uses a hybrid scheme given by the Differential Quadrature Method (DQM) and the Finite…
Paper presents the analytical solution of the stress-strain state for a dented pipeline, based on the method of equivalent loads. First off all solution for a harmonic imperfection is found, then using Fourier series expansion a…
According to the principle of virtual work for a system of elastic layers, a semi-analytical scheme for constructing the finite-dimensional analog of the variational equation was developed based on the well-known analytical solution in the…
Aim of the paper is to present a one dimensional simple model for the study of the bond behavior of Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) strengthening systems externally applied to structural substrates. The equilibrium of an…
The role of some geometrical characteristics of the notches machined in circular discs, in order to determine the mode-I fracture toughness of brittle materials, is discussed. The study is implemented both analytically and numerically.…
The stress field developed in a circular semi-ring under the combined action of diametral compression and bending is explored both analytically and numerically. The analytic solution is implemented by means of the complex potentials…
This study develops stress intensity factor (SIF) solutions for cladded WWER reactor pressure vessel nozzles subjected to pressurised thermal shock loading. Although finite element analysis is widely used for fracture assessment…
In this paper, an analytical and numerical study in FEM finite element by the ABAQUS software was conducted. Which aims to study the behaviour of RC beams bending strengthened with SNSM side near surface mounted technique, proposed as a…
This is the second part of a short three-paper series, aiming to revisit some classical concepts of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics. Being the intermediate step of the analysis between infinite domains (discussed in Part-I) and finite…
Nowadays the demand for high strength steels is increasing. In order to design and develop high performance products, it is essential to understand the fatigue behavior of these materials. When considering welded components, the fatigue…
We analyse the problem of a simply supported beam, strengthened with a fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) strip bonded to its intrados and subjected to bending couples applied to its end sections. A mechanical model is proposed, whereby the…
In the maintenance work of cable configurations, which have limitations such as cables in cable-stayed bridges, suspenders in suspension bridges, and hangers in arch bridges, tension on the cables is required. The safety of the cable is…
The paper examines a static bending of porous functional plates (FGP) and rectangular plate solutions, based on an underlying high-order shear deformation theory. The proposed high-order shear deformation theory, as opposed to other…
The S-version Finite Element Method (FEM) is known as a global-local superimposed approach that consists of two separate meshes referred to as global and local cracks. The relationship between the energy release rate and the Stress…
In this article, the analytical solutions for static of bending analysis of functionally graded sandwich plates using four-variable high order shear-deformation theory is presented. During manufacture of these plates, defects such as…
