In order to research the effect of cracks in red clay on shear strength through dry-wet cycle test, the experimenters used imaging software and a mathematical model to determine fractal dimension and crack ratio of surface cracks in red…
The objective of the present paper is to clarify the effect of defect length in depth direction on rolling contact fatigue (RCF) crack propagation in high strength steel. RCF test and synchrotron radiation micro computed tomography (SR…
In rolling contact fatigue (RCF), cracks usually initiate from inclusions beneath the surface and propagate to the contact surface. In the present study, synchrotron radiation computed laminography (SRCL) imaging was performed to observe…
New conception of adiabatic shear bands (ASB) and adiabatic shear failure mechanisms are proposed as special type of critical phenomen, structural-scaling transition, in the ensembles of microshears, governed by the characteristic…
The very high cycle region of the S-N fatigue curve has been the subject of intensive research on the last years, with special focus on axial, bending, torsional and fretting fatigue tests. Very high cycle fatigue can be achieved using…
Aeroengine manufacturers have to demonstrate that critical components such as turbine disks, made of DA Inconel 718, meet the certification requirements in term of fatigue crack growth. In order to be more representative of the in service…
The aim of this study was to investigate the modulation transfer function (MTF) and the effective gain transfer function (eGTF) of a non-destructive testing (NDT)/industrial inspection complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS)…
Un’accurata osservazione della geometria tridimensionale di cricche e difetti è necessaria per lo studio dei meccanismi alla base del processo di danneggiamento. I metodi convenzionali utilizzati a questo scopo sono distruttivi o non…
The present work aims at developing a new approach towards the analysis of the crack path through the access to the information from the infrared (IR) video imaging of the steady fatigue crack growth. We first test some commonly available…
This work investigated the effects of graphene and SiO2 addition on the mechanical and fracture properties of epoxy (80%) - Polylactic acid (PLA) (20 %) composites. Epoxy-PLA composites were loaded with graphene and SiO2 (0.1-0.5 wt. %…
The use of carbon-fiber composite materials (CFRP) in critical cases implies an increase in the resistance to the stability of their mechanical properties. For the purpose of in-depth analysis of defects in the experiments, an integrated…
Within this work, the causes of collapses and damages occurred in masonry artefacts have been evaluated to properly identify suitable monitoring and restoration methods. In this regard, a comprehensive literature review has been performed.…
The paper provides an evaluation of the nonlinear dynamic response of a cantilever beam made of composite material subjected to low-velocity impacts. The structure is assumed to respond in a quasi-static manner and modelled by a continuous…
The rapid development of inhomogeneous and anisotropic materials like carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) with epoxy matrices necessitates a multidisciplinary approach for safe use. This approach should integrate computational modeling…
This study investigates the physico-mechanical properties, mineralogical composition, deterioration processes, weathering patterns, and durability of building materials in the Ottoman Fort of Tamentfoust, Algiers, to inform heritage…
