The aim of the paper was investigation crack initiation and fracture features developed during compression of Fe-based bulk metallic glass (BMG). These Fe-based BMG has received great attention as a new class of structural material due to…
Fatigue (high- and gigacycle) crack initiation and its propagation in titanium alloys with coarse and fine grain structure are studied by fractography analysis of fracture surface. Fractured specimens were analyzed by interferometer…
This study investigates the effects of complex (nonproportional) loading on plastic deformation in aluminum alloys (Al-6% Mg), with a focus on understanding surface morphology changes driven by the Portevin–Le Chatelier effect. Mechanical…
Plastics belong to the most complex and probably least understood engineering materials of today. Combining the best aspects of design, mechanical properties and manufacturing, the structural integrity of plastics is on par with aluminium…
A Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), in the course of a training flight, leaving the ground during the taxi to take off, went into an uncontrolled rolling to the right; consequently the helicopter gradually laid down on the right side. The…
Crack initiation characteristics and fatigue property of a high-strength steel in very-high-cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime under different stress ratios were investigated in this paper. Fatigue tests were performed at stress ratios of -1…
To meet the design requirements, different types of defects are often machined on the surface of fatigue components. Local stress concentration formed at the notch accelerate the initiation of fatigue crack, therefore greatly shorten the…
In the current studies an investigations were made to know the effect of 63 micron sized B4C particles addition on the mechanical and wear behavior of aerospace alloy Al2618 metal composites. Al2618 alloy with different weight percentages…
The focus of this research was to investigate the effects of carbon nanofiber (CNF) reinforcement on the mechanical performance, interfacial characteristics, and abrasive wear behavior of short glass fiber/polyphenylene sulfide (GF/PPS)…
Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) fillers of 2 to 8 wt.% influence on toughness, microhardness and thermal stability of carbon fabric-reinforced epoxy composite (CFREC) reported. Mode-I, mixed-mode I/II…
New developments in thermal spraying processes may offer higher-quality alternatives to hard chrome plating and possibilities for hard chrome plating in a range of coating applications. These include spraying with high-velocity air fuel…
The major drawback observed in the ceramic particles reinforced aluminium matrix composites (AMCs) is the reduction of ductility. Incorporating fine metallic particles along with the ceramic reinforcements in the aluminium matrix tends to…
In the current work 17-4PH Stainless Steel is deposited using SLM process. It is widely used to build structural parts appropriate for automotive, medical, and aerospace applications. The 17-4 PH SS samples were deposited using technical…
The objective of the present paper is to investigate the stress-controlled low-cycle fatigue behavior of piston aluminum-silicon (AlSi) alloy reinforced with nano-clay particles and T6 heat-treatment. The piston aluminum-silicon alloy…
Global and localized wrinkling phenomena in films/substrates have been widely studied by means of experiment and theoretical analyses in the past two decades. They have shown broad application prospect in microstructure manufacture. The…
In the present paper, microstructural and mechanical properties of an innovative AlSi3Mg alloy were studied. Particularly, the effect of the addition of Cr and Mn on tensile strength and impact toughness was evaluated. In fact, the…
The role of structural mechanisms responsible for the consequent staging of damage-failure transition as the combination and continuity of ductile and creep kinetics of the structure evolution and the modeling in dwell fatigue regime.…
Most techniques of measuring the stress intensity factor (SIF) in the cracking process assume a crack in a planar medium. Currently, there is no effective approach for curved brittle shells, particularly for non-developable cases, i.e.…
This note summarizes some recent investigation results on the behavior of corroded steel bolted joints under uniaxial fatigue loading. Fatigue test specimens, were made up using S355 structural steel plates joined together with preloaded…
The core of the present work concerns the analysis of the failure mode and the fracture process induced by the flexural load in Fibre Metal Laminates (FMLs). The influence of the connection layer placed between the composite ones and the…
The microstructural origins of premature fatigue failures were investigated on a variety of forged components manufactured from AZ80 and ZK60 magnesium, both at the test specimen level and the full-scale component level. Both stress and…
