New conception of adiabatic shear bands (ASB) and adiabatic shear failure mechanisms are proposed as special type of critical phenomen, structural-scaling transition, in the ensembles of microshears, governed by the characteristic…
This study aims to analyze the effect of thermo mechanical coupling damage in the presence of a phase change (austenite/martensite) in 35NCD16 steel. The impact of increasing mechanical traction load, accompanied by a martensitic…
This work describes a two-dimensional numerical model that allows detecting the appearance of cracks and calculating their propagation in elements made of laminated bamboo, under tension and shear. This composite material has long parallel…
This research discusses the micromechanical modelling for thermoplastic composite material. Elastoplastic and damage model for PEEK matrix composite with the dependency of properties to stress state is presented. Plasticity initiation…
The paper is related to the assessment of collapse mechanisms of historic masonry structures suffering settlements induced by ground movements. Two numerical strategies are adopted in order to study the influence of the settled zone on the…
The publication presents a cruciform specimen for the determination of cyclic crack growth data under biaxial loading. The design of the specimen with slotted loading arms allows good decoupling between the two loading directions. For…
A general approach to realization of models of elasticity, plasticity and fracture of heterogeneous materials within the framework of particle-based numerical methods is proposed in the paper. It is based on building many-body forces of…
This study represents a methodology to assess the probability of failure based on three the driving force formulations defined by the corresponding brittle and ductile fracture criteria for compact and bending specimens made of 34XH3MA and…
To investigate the deterioration of granite under microwave irradiation and heat transfer, granite specimens were heated up to 400-1000 °C and then kept for 15 min. Uniaxial compressive strength testing results demonstrate a similar…
The present authors have previously proposed a novel ‘plastic inclusion’ approach for dealing with the local plasticity which occurs at the tip of a growing fatigue crack. This meso-scale model provides a modified set of crack tip stress…
High Entropy Alloys (HEAs) is a unique class of materials that combine particular properties in a large-scale of temperatures, able to guarantee new unexplored materials and alloys with several potentially engineering applications (i.e.…
The paper deals with the investigation of the temporal instabilities and spatial localization due to the Lüders behavior and the Portevin–Le Chatelier effect in the carbon steel C1010 and the aluminummagnesium alloy AA5052, which manifest…
In fracture mechanics (domain of cracked environments), it is concerned to forecast the behavior of the structures until their ruin. Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a new process for solid-state joining, it can weld high strength aluminum…
Radiation effects lead to significant reduction in ductility during the life of the components used in nuclear reactors. Sharp change in fracture toughness at lower temperature in Body Centered Cubic (BCC) materials as compared to Face…
Very-High-Cycle-Fatigue regime for metals was considered and mechanisms of the subsurface crack origination were introduced. In many metals first step of crack origination takes place with specific area formation because of material…
The aim of this work is to solve the methodological issues of the experimental study of the nucleation and propagation of deformation bands due to the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect under conditions of complex loading. It is of interest to…
This study investigates the effects of complex (nonproportional) loading on plastic deformation in aluminum alloys (Al-6% Mg), with a focus on understanding surface morphology changes driven by the Portevin–Le Chatelier effect. Mechanical…
In this work, a comparison between NLK and Mróz-Garud’s multi-surface formulations is presented. A unified common notation is introduced to describe the involved equations, showing that the Mróz-Garud model can be regarded as a particular…
Microstructural characteristics, monotonic and strain-controlled cyclic axial behaviors of AW2099-T83 Aluminum-Lithium alloy were investigated. Grain sizes and structures are not uniform in the different orientations studied. High strength…
The exhaustion of constructive ways for increasing the service life of parts has led to the development of new methods which can improve their material properties during operation under various loading conditions. Laser shock peening (LSP)…
