In the present work, the stress intensity factor (SIF) of embedded small cracks placed at the weld toe is calculated by means of two procedures based on the Oore-Burns integral. In the first approach, the defect is considered as a circular…
A new technique of Layered Hollow Core Slab (LHCS) has been used to obtain a slab with an optimum weight-to-strength ratio. Specimens with a 90 mm top layer of High Strength Concrete (HSC) and a 90 mm bottom layer of Lightweight Aggregate…
The composite materials are normally made of reinforcements and resins. High-performance composites are generally termed hybrid composite materials. Generally, fiber-reinforced composite laminates are very weak in their out-of-plane…
The existence of three-dimensional effects at cracks has been known for many years, but understanding has been limited, and for some situations still is. Understanding improved when the existence of corner point singularities and their…
The three dimensional growth of fatigue cracks in samples of nodular graphite cast iron is characterized using laboratory X-ray computed tomography. The cracks grow from laser machined artificial defects, their development is monitored in…
The purpose of this study is to analyze the behavior of a crack with and without reinforcement by a composite patch of an aluminum plate in mode I using the finite element method. The repair patch is boron / epoxy and Carbon / epoxy, which…
A present study reveals the influence of nano Al2O3 and ZrO2 reinforcements on the fracture toughness of Hybrid Metal matrix Composites (HMMCs) made of Al6061 alloy. Composites are synthesized by varying weight fraction of alumina and…
In this work the finite element method (FEM) was used to analyze the mechanical behavior of the composite materials subjected to the mechanical loading. This behavior is studied in terms of stress intensity factor variation as a function…
Crack growth and brittle fracture is one of the major failure modes in bone materials and therefore understanding the fracture behavior and affecting parameters on the crack growth resistance of bone is necessary for biomechanics…
