Due to the peculiar graphite elements shape, obtained by means of a chemical composition control (mainly small addition of elements like Mg, Ca or Ce), Ductile Cast Irons (DCIs) are able to offer the good castability of gray irons with the…
Focusing on ferritic-pearlitic DCIs, these alloys are characterized by a microstructure that ranges from a fully ferritic to a completely pearlitic matrix, and they are widely used for many applications (e.g. wheels, gears, crankshafts in…
In order to research the effect of cracks in red clay on shear strength through dry-wet cycle test, the experimenters used imaging software and a mathematical model to determine fractal dimension and crack ratio of surface cracks in red…
Ductile cast irons (DCIs) are characterized by a wide range of mechanical properties, mainly depending on microstructural factors, as matrix microstructure (characterized by phases volume fraction, grains size and grain distribution)…
The damage evolution in a single domain aluminium/alumina freeze-cast composite has been examined using 3D X-ray computed tomography (CT). A single domain was extracted and loaded incrementally at an orientation of 45° to the lamellae…
Most research on the mode II fracture toughness of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) has intentionally avoided bridging fibers at pre-notch surfaces by using a through-thickness crack (TTC) that cuts the entire thickness, including fibers in…
This study uses theoretical stress intensity factor data to assess how well machine learning models predict crack length. Thin-walled damage plate under various modes was evaluated based on the theoretical relation. Using theoretical data…
Numerical techniques have been widely applied in many recent works to investigate micro-scale behavior of materials. This work focuses on the analysis of strain localizations in a Nickel-based alloy, Haynes 230. Numerical models and…
In this paper, the attention is paid to investigation of the importance of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) in selected fine-grained cement-based composites for the global fracture behaviour. This is a region of cement paste around…
A geometrically simplified plane elasticity problem of a finite small crack emanating from a thin interfacial zone surrounding the circular inclusion situated in the finite bounded domain is investigated. The crack is arbitrarily oriented…
There is a tremendous increase in the use of high strength and high performance self-consolidating cementitious composites due to their superior workability and mechanical strengths. Cement composites are quasi-brittle in nature and…
Simulating the concrete fracture unlike other elastic and brittle materials quite different due to its quasibrittleness. The present research focussed on assess softening behavior by varying different fractions of aggregates and cement…
In this paper the effect of reinforcement crack position and loading conditions (in mode I) on the stress intensity factors of the Al/SiCp metal matrix composite was examined using a finite element method. A simple cubic cell model with…
The composite materials are normally made of reinforcements and resins. High-performance composites are generally termed hybrid composite materials. Generally, fiber-reinforced composite laminates are very weak in their out-of-plane…
Main aim of this work is to investigate the influences of the addition of cenosphere and specimen crack length on the fracture toughness of Al6061-SiC composites. The experimental analysis was carried out for 3, 6 and 9 wt% proportions of…
The objective of this research work is to study the fracture behavior of Al6061 with graphite particulate composite produced by the stir casting technique. For the study different composition of the particulate metal matrix composite used…
This paper studied the effects of specimen size and type on the real-mode-I fracture toughness (KIC )of steel fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) specimens. Mode I KIC tests were performed using semicircular bend (SCB) and center-cracked…
In this article the plain elasticity problem for a semi-strip with a transverse crack is investigated in the different cases of the boundary conditions at the semi-strip’s end. Unlike many works dedicated to this subject, the fixed…
