Analysis of accuracy of Williams series approximation of stress field in cracked body – influence of area of interest around crack-tip on multi-parameter regression performance

J. Sobek, P. Frantík, V. Veselý

A study on the accuracy of an approximation of the stress field in a cracked body is presented. Crack-tip stress tensor is expressed using the linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) theory in this work, more precisely via its…

Multi-parameter approximation of stress field in a cracked specimen using purpose-built Java applications

V. Veselý, J. Sobek, D. Tesa?, P. Frantík, T. Pail, S. Seitl

A quality of multi-parameter approximation of the stress and displacement fields around a crack tip in a non-brittle material test specimen is studied in the paper. The stress field approximation using Williams power series is intended to…

Williams expansion-based approximation of the stress field in an Al 2024 body with a crack from optical measurements

S. Seitl, L. Malíkova, J. Sobek, P. Frantík, P. Lopez-Crespo

A study on the approximation of the stress field in the vicinity of crack tip in a compact tension specimen made from Al 2024-T351 is presented. Crack tip stress tensor components are expressed using the linear elastic fracture mechanics…

Review of the Influence of non-singular higher order terms on the stress field of thin welded lap joints and small inclined cracks in plates

F. Berto, M.R. Ayatollahi, S. Vantadori, A. Carpinteri

In stress analysis of cracked plates, alongside the stress intensity factor which quantifies the singular stress component perpendicular to the crack plane, the role played in crack growth by the constant term parallel to the crack plane…

Estimation of the crack propagation direction in a mixed-mode geometry via multi-parameter fracture criteria

L. Malíková, V. Veselý, S. Seitl

The presented work introduces a numerical parametric study on the crack propagation direction under mixed-mode conditions (mode I + II). It is conducted for the geometry of an eccentric asymmetric fourpoint bending of a single edge notched…

The concept of the average stress in the fracture process zone for the search of the crack path

Yu.G. Matvienko, M.M. Semenova

The concept of the average stress has been employed to propose the maximum average tangential stress (MATS) criterion for predicting the direction of fracture angle. This criterion states that a crack grows when the maximum average…
