The paper deals with the Stress Intensity Factor assessment of cracks at the intersection of holes loaded by internal pressure. Triangular flaws are considered at the intersection of two holes inside a specific specimen. The research…
The weight function method provides a powerful and reliable tool for the determination of the stress intensity factor around the crack tip in a linearly elastic cracked solid subjected to arbitrary loading conditions. However, it is…
In this paper, a general weight function was developed to calculate the stress intensity factors (SIFs) for quarter-elliptical cracks in a wide range of lug attachment family. For this purpose, a series of finite element analyses were…
In the present work, the stress intensity factor (SIF) of embedded small cracks placed at the weld toe is calculated by means of two procedures based on the Oore-Burns integral. In the first approach, the defect is considered as a circular…
This paper analyses the influence that the type of geometry used to obtain the stress/strain fields in a cylindrical contact has on fretting fatigue life predictions. In addition, this work considers the effect that the fatigue crack shape…
This paper presents an advanced optimization methodology for truss structures, addressing both elasto-plastic design cases—where plastic deformations are controlled within predefined limits—and purely elastic scenarios, in which inelastic…
The readings of the Bragg grating are determined based on the optical radiation reflected from it. A quantitative characteristic of this radiation is the wavelength at which the maximum power of the optical signal is achieved. This…
Aluminum alloys are widely used in the automobile industry because of their excellent mechanical strength, low weight, and remarkable resistance to corrosion and wear. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the microstructure…
Variational principle of brittle fracture mechanics is employed to predict the crack path in an infinite wedge under a concentrated tensile force. The weight function in basic equation of variational problem is assumed to be proportional…
FML (Fibre Metal Laminate) is a hybrid material that presents outstanding structural properties, such as resistance to cyclic and dynamic loads, together with low specific weight. This material consists of metal sheets alternating to…
In the present work, a simple formula for the evaluation of the stress intensity factor (SIF) of convex embedded polygonal cracks has been proposed. This formula is structured as a correction factor of the Oore-Burns’ equation and is based…
Tibia is one of the bones that often fracture, generally occurring due to a car accident, falling from high places, work accidents, and sports injuries. Internal fixation is one of the solutions to repair broken bones. In some cases…
