Foams and porous materials with cellular structure have many interesting combinations of physical and mechanical properties coupled with low specific weight. By means of replication casting it is possible to manufacture foams from molten…
Earthquake disasters have brought great harm to people's life safety and economic property. Its effect on fabric mainly focus on random effects currently, the general pseudo excitation method could solve the inefficiency calculation…
Vast number of theoretical and experimental works has been devoted to the study of discontinuous plastic deformation (the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect), which manifests itself for most widely used alloys in certain ranges of both…
In Portugal there is a number of old metallic riveted railway and highway bridges that were erected by the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, and are still in operation, requiring inspections and remediation…
In the current work 17-4PH Stainless Steel is deposited using SLM process. It is widely used to build structural parts appropriate for automotive, medical, and aerospace applications. The 17-4 PH SS samples were deposited using technical…
A computational simulation of low-cycle fatigue behaviour of lotus-type porous material, subjected to biaxial in-phase loading cycles is presented in this paper. Fatigue properties of porous materials are less frequently published in the…
This paper reports results of fatigue tests of friction stir welded (FSW) aluminium tubes. Relatively small 38 mm diameter tubes were used and hence an automated FSW process using a retracting tool was designed for this project, as the…
A set of heterogeneous and homogeneous materials differing in their brittle and ductile characteristics (granite, marble, silica ceramics, silicon carbide, organic glass) were subjected to impact damaging by a falling weight. Multiple…
The aluminum alloy are extensively used in several industrial applications. Stir casting is one of the most frequently accepted methods. In the present investigation, how the microstructure, mechanical and wear mechanics of A357 alloy were…
Taking advantage of the interevent time intervals, namely the time intervals between two successive acoustic events recorded during mechanical loading of structural elements, it is attempted to detect indices warning about upcoming…
The scatter degree of the fatigue samples is reduced when the nodal force based structural method is used for steel welded joints, while it is still high for aluminum alloy welded joints. Statistical method and rough set theory is used to…
The aim of this work is to evaluate the failure analysis of jute fabric reinforced composite using statistical technique for marine applications. A fracture mechanics approach is proposed to determine the failure load and fracture…
Modern technological capabilities make it possible to produce 3D spatially-reinforced for polymer composite materials. The tasks of experimental research and analysis of the deformation process of new composite materials for aviation…
This study presents a three dimensional finite element method analysis of semi-elliptical surface cracks in pipes under internal pressure load. In the elastic–plastic case, estimates of the J-integral are presented for various ratios…
The aim of this work is the study of the effect of the finishing of the edge of glass when it has a structural function. Experimental investigations carried out for glass specimens are presented. Various series of annealed glass beam were…
Among the most promising models introduced in recent years, with which it is possible to obtain very useful results for a better understanding of the physical phenomena involved in the macroscopic mechanism of crack propagation, the one…
Durability deterioration of structure is a highly random process. The maintenance of degenerated structure involves the calculation of the reliability of time-dependent structure. This study introduced reinforced concrete structure…
Limit equilibrium engineering analysis needs the incorporation of probabilistic approaches for the determination of soil strength statistical measures for deterministic and probabilistic analyses. For the commonly used Mohr–Coulomb…
In recent years, the use of natural fiber composites to provide a possible replacement for synthetic fiber composites for practical applications has been the subject of several studies. This study deals with the fabrication and…
This paper aims to disclose the damage evolution law of the surface field of argillaceous dolomite. For this purpose, the 3D digital image correlation was combined with the Brazilian test into a new analysis method for the surface field…
Aluminum composites with varied weight percentages of 0-2.5 B4C particles and micro- and nanoparticle sizes were fabricated by stir-casting. The material's mechanical and wear characteristics were evaluated. We used dry pin-on-disc wear…
This paper presents the development of the multiple linear regression approach based on the stress ratio and applied load that was assessed using entropy generation. The energy dissipation is associated with material degradation to…
This study investigates the effects of low concentration (0.1-0.4 wt.%) nano-boron carbide (B4C) reinforcement on the mechanical, thermal and fracture properties of epoxy nanocomposites. The nanocomposites were prepared via solution…
This paper presents a novel modification of the multilevel statistical model for describing the subgrain boundary migration that can explicitly account for the topology of subgrain structures in the form of Laguerre polyhedra. The…
Deep drawing of sheet metal is a crucial industrial process due to its high productivity and low cost per unit produced. Stainless steels are ideal for this process, given their high deformability compared to other steels. Despite its…
During manufacturing of parts from metals and alloys through forming and subsequent thermal and mechanical treatments the materials are often subjected to complex loading. In such cases materials significantly change their structure, which…
The fragmentation statistics was studied in the quasi-static compression experiments conducted on prismatic specimens of Mansurov granite. The statistical analysis showed that the cumulative fragment mass distribution for granite specimens…
