A Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), in the course of a training flight, leaving the ground during the taxi to take off, went into an uncontrolled rolling to the right; consequently the helicopter gradually laid down on the right side. The…
Static traction tests on material samples for mechanical constructions have pointed out the loss of linearity of the specimen surface temperature with the applied load. This phenomenon is due to the heat generation caused by the local…
Residual stresses occur in many manufactured structures and components. Great number of investigations have been carried out to study this phenomenon. Over the years, different techniques have been developed to measure residual stresses…
Semi–empirical notch sensitivity factors q have been widely used to properly account for notch effects in fatigue design for a long time. However, the intrinsically empirical nature of this old concept can be avoided by modeling it using…
This article presents the bending fatigue behavior and the scatter-band analysis of aluminum alloys under beneficial conditions of nano-clay-particles and heat-treating, compared to detrimental conditions of the mechanical stress and the…
The dynamic experimental and numerical analysis of cracked beams has been studied with the aim of quantifying the influence of depth crack on the dynamic response of steel beams. Artificial Neural Method ANN has been used where a numerical…
We predict the fatigue life of a planar tubular truss when geometrical parameters, material properties, and live loads are non-deterministic. A multi-level calculation uncertainty quantification framework code was designed to aggregate the…
Most seismic design codes provide formulas for estimating base shear and lateral loads. To determine lateral loads, the building's fundamental vibration period must be calculated, either theoretically or experimentally. However, there is…
In the current work an experimental study of the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) is performed to evaluate the ability of this parameter to characterise fatigue crack growth. A methodology is developed to measure and to analyse the…
This paper presents numerical models of a 3D printed plastic joint applicable to the connection of wooden structures. The research presented provides a comparison of two alternative solutions for the geometry of the joint and results from…
In this paper, the initial and maximum load was studied using the Finite Element Modeling (FEM) analysis during impact testing (CVN) of pipeline X70 steel. The Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) constitutive model has been used to simulate…
The behavior of short cracks that depart from elastoplastic notch tips is modeled to estimate the stresses required to initiate and to propagate cracks in notched structural components, and to evaluate the size of tolerable crack-like…
This research present a novel investigation, which focuses on the numerical exploration of steel columns having a double curvature, built with both hollow square and circular cross-sections. A finite element model was initially created…
In this paper a macro-block model accounting for frictional resistances is presented to assess the lateral strength of a multi-storey masonry block wall. The kinematic approach of limit analysis is used to define the load factor causing…
The behavior of thermoplastics depends on several factors, mainly time and temperature. The present work is the subject of an analysis of the dependence of viscoelastic viscoplastic parameters of a model of rheological behavior at the…
The presence of grouting defects emanating from construction operations constitutes a major threat to the structural integrity of the grouted sleeve connection of precast concrete members. This work presents a location-based assessment of…
The current work presents an experimental study on the use of the crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) to evaluate its ability to characterise fatigue crack growth. A methodology is developed to measure and to analyse the CTOD from…
The objective of the study is to introduce an experimental uncertainty budget process for concrete compressive strength test, based on a protocol that incorporates effects of multiple factors significant for the measurement result.…
To meet the design requirements, different types of defects are often machined on the surface of fatigue components. Local stress concentration formed at the notch accelerate the initiation of fatigue crack, therefore greatly shorten the…
The article is devoted to the experimental study of the laws of inelastic deformation of structural polymer composites in the presence of macroinhomogeneous fields. The work uses a three-dimensional optical system and a method of digital…
Additive manufacturing has been recently employed in industrial sectors with the fundamental requirement for zero defect parts. Technological developments in additive manufacturing notwithstanding, there continues to be a scarcity of…
This study investigates spall damage and failure in Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) pressure vessels under explosive internal loading using stimulated electric discharge. Analytical modeling, validation with published experimental…
