Fatigue life investigation of notched TC4 specimens subjected to different patterns of laser shock peening

Anastasia Iziumova, Maxim Zhelnin, Anastasia Kostina, Aleksei Vshivkov, Elena Gachegova, Oleg Plekhov, S. Swaroop

The exhaustion of constructive ways for increasing the service life of parts has led to the development of new methods which can improve their material properties during operation under various loading conditions. Laser shock peening (LSP)…

Crack tip strain evolution and crack closure during overload of a growing fatigue crack

De-Qiang Wang, Ming-Liang Zhu, Fu-Zhen Xuan

It is generally accepted that fatigue crack growth is retarded after an overload, which has been explained either by plasticity-induced crack closure or near-tip residual stress. However, any interpretation of overload effect is…

Modelling probabilistic fatigue crack propagation rates for a mild structural steel

J.A.F.O. Correia, A.M.P. de Jesus, A. Fernández-Canteli

A class of fatigue crack growth models based on elastic–plastic stress–strain histories at the crack tip region and local strain-life damage models have been proposed in literature. The fatigue crack growth is regarded as a process of…

Fatigue crack growth in notched specimens: a numerical analysis: Fatigue crack growth in notched specimens

Fernando Ventura Antunes, Ricardo Branco, Pedro Prates, José Domingos Costa

Fatigue crack growth (FCG) is linked to irreversible and non-linear processes happening at the crack tip, which explains different problems observed in the use of da/dN-DK curves. The replacement of DK by non-linear crack tip parameters…
