In this investigation, three-dimensional elastic finite element analyses have been conducted to compute the stress intensity factor (KI) in a SENB specimen with varied thickness (B) and crack-length to width ratio (a/W). The results…
In order to study the growth mechanism of fatigue cracks in ultrafine grained copper, stress controlled fatigue tests of round-bar specimens with a small blind hole as a crack starter were conducted. The hole was drilled on the surface…
Presence of cracks in mechanical components needs much attention, where the stress field is affected by cracks and the propagation of cracks may be occurred causing the damage. The objective of this paper is to present an investigation of…
The presented work introduces a numerical parametric study on the crack propagation direction under mixed-mode conditions (mode I + II). It is conducted for the geometry of an eccentric asymmetric fourpoint bending of a single edge notched…
In the last two decades, visual image techniques such as Digital Image Correlation (DIC) enabled to experimentally determine the crack tip displacement and strain fields at small scales. The displacements are tracked during loading, and…
The hydrogen effect on the fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth behaviour in the martensitic high strength steel is investigated. The secondary ion mass spectrometry method has been employed to analyse the distribution of hydrogen…
In this paper are presented the crack initiation angles obtained in polyurethane (PUR) foams under mixed mode loading. Closed cell rigid PUR foams having three different densities 100, 145, and 300 kg/m3 were investigated. Experiments were…
The objective of this study is to analyze the performance of composite bonding repair, hole drilling and the combination of the two techniques (hybrid repairs) by tensile tests and to show the interest of a hybrid repair versus to other…
In the present work, the stress intensity factor (SIF) of a small embedded square-like flaw is calculated by means of a procedure based on the Oore-Burns integral. An explicit equation is given to evaluate the SIF along the two axes of…
The modeling of the welding is desirable to guess the deformation of the components during manufacture, the position and the magnitude of maximum residual stresses and to envisage metallurgical effects in specific zones. The welding are…
