This paper deals with the influence of the cold drawing process on the fracture behaviour of pearlitic steels. To this end, fracture tests under axial loading were performed on steel wires with different drawing degree (from a hot rolled…
An analytical study of longitudinal fracture in two-dimensional functionally graded cantilever beam configurations is carried-out with taking into account the non-linear behavior of material. A longitudinal crack is located arbitrary along…
Crack growth and brittle fracture is one of the major failure modes in bone materials and therefore understanding the fracture behavior and affecting parameters on the crack growth resistance of bone is necessary for biomechanics…
Analyses of longitudinal fracture behavior of inhomogeneous beams which have continuously varying sizes of the cross-section along the beam length are carried-out. Beams of a rectangular cross-section are studied. It is assumed that beams…
The ambient and high-temperature fatigue crack growth behaviors in C(T) and SENT specimens of Ni-based superalloy for turbine disk application were studied in a wide interval of temperatures 25–750°C using a combination a electro- and…
This paper is focused on delamination fracture analyses of a multilayered functionally graded circular shaft under two loading combinations (centric tension and torsion, and bending and torsion) assuming non-linear elastic mechanical…
A356-T6 cast aluminum alloy is a light weight structural material, but fatigue crack initiates and propagates from a casting defect leading to final fracture. Thus it is important to eliminate casting defects. In this study, friction stir…
This paper presents a case study in which identification of the controlling crack path was critical to identifying the root cause of the failure. The case involves the rupture of a 30-inch (0.76 m) natural gas pipeline in 2010 that…
Wood is an orthotropic material used since ancient time. A literature research about the mechanical properties of density, fracture toughness, modulus of elasticity, and Poisson’s ratio has been done to have a broader view on the subject.…
The polypropylene random copolymer (PPR) is a thermoplastic material generally used for the transport of water under pressure, especially hot water. PPR pipes are exposed to severe conditions in terms of pressure and temperature, hence the…
Results of secondary creep tests for salt rock specimens were mathematically described. Elastic-viscoplastic modeling of viscous properties of salt rocks was based on elastoplastic models using a non-associated Mohr-Coulomb plastic flow…
Microstructure influence on fatigue crack propagation resistance in five different ductile cast irons (DCI) was investigated. Four ferrite/pearlite volume fractions were considered, performing fatigue crack propagation tests according to…
Modern technological capabilities make it possible to produce 3D spatially-reinforced for polymer composite materials. The tasks of experimental research and analysis of the deformation process of new composite materials for aviation…
