In this work we designed and manufactured a novel magnetorheological (MR) fluid damper with internal pressure control. Previous authors’ works showed that the yield stress ?B of MR fluids depends both on the magnetic field intensity and on…
In this paper, we developed a mathematical modeling to represent the damage of thermoplastic pipes. On the one hand, we adapted the theories of the rupture pressure to fit the High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) case. Indeed, the theories for…
The paper deals with the Stress Intensity Factor assessment of cracks at the intersection of holes loaded by internal pressure. Triangular flaws are considered at the intersection of two holes inside a specific specimen. The research…
The damage development due to externally applied mechanical stress is a hot topic of interest involving several applications of everyday life, like civil engineering, monument restoration, construction evaluation and health monitoring.…
The pipes, during their service, are subjected to accumulated loads such as internal pressure and that of the soil. The latter considerably accelerate their damage. In this work, the bending moment stress of API 5L X70 category steel…
This study investigates spall damage and failure in Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) pressure vessels under explosive internal loading using stimulated electric discharge. Analytical modeling, validation with published experimental…
This study presents a hybrid framework integrating a physics-based corrosion model with a feedforward neural network (FNN) to predict corrosion rates and estimate the remaining useful life (RUL) of industrial pressure vessels for…
This study presents a three dimensional finite element method analysis of semi-elliptical surface cracks in pipes under internal pressure load. In the elastic–plastic case, estimates of the J-integral are presented for various ratios…
This study presents a numerical prediction of the ductile damage for axial cracks in pipe subjected to internal pressure. The three dimensional finite element methods used to evaluate the J-integral. The effect of the external radius (Rext…
The efficiency of two modern sensing techniques, namely the “Acoustic Emissions” and the “Pressure Stimulated Currents” ones, when they are used as Continuous Structural Health Monitoring tools, is assessed experimentally. The protocol…
A recently introduced solution for the stress- and displacementfields, developed in a multi-layered circular ring, composed of a finite number of linearly elastic concentric layers, subjected to a parabolic distribution of radial stresses…
Given the field of application and the many advantages, the use of FGM (Functionally Graded Materials) materials has recently been extended in several components and more particularly in cylindrical structures, which have been the subject…
In this paper the bombardment of the Constantinople Theodosian Walls by the great cannon of Orban is numerically reproduced deploying Structural Mechanics. Overall gun dimensions were assessed based on historical reports, whereby, the…
The effect of multiple shallow corrosion pits on the strength of a spherical vessel subjected to internal pressure is studied. The pits are considered both randomly and evenly distributed along the equator on the outer surface of the…
In this study, the three-dimensional finite element method is used to analyze an API 5L X70 steel cylindrical pipeline subjected to an internal pressure load by calculating the stress intensity factors and the integral J at the peak of…
Fitness-for-service assessment of a cracked component intends to evaluate its remaining strength and remaining life to support the implementation of a maintenance plan. This research aims to develop a fitness-for-service assessment…
The purpose of this article is to present the stress intensity factors (SIF) solutions for semi-elliptic crack in pipelines under internal pressures, the stress intensity factors are calculated by the three-dimensional finite element…
Research on determining the lifetime of an expansion bellows designed to compensate the difference in expansion between the shell and the tubes in a fixed tube sheet heat exchanger has never ceased because of its Importance in a heat…
