Improvement of crack tip position estimation in DIC images by image processing methods

Najat Zekriti, Fatima Majid, Hachimi Taoufik, Yassine Tounsi, Rajaa Rhanim, Ibrahim Mrani, Hassan Rhanim

The study presents and compares an application of two procedures to identify the crack tip location in PVC Sent samples under a uniaxial tensile test based on the image processing method. An IDS camera captures several photos of the PVC…

Defect detection of wire rope for oil well based on adaptive angle

Zhang Jijun, Meng Xiangqing

This paper uses a digital image processing method which is based on texture feature of steel cable to detect the fracture of steel wire. At first, it uses a modified homomorphic filtering method to eliminate environment heterogeneous…

Mathematical data processing according to digital image correlation method for polymer composites

Dmitriy Lobanov, Elena Strungar

The paper analyses the numerical algorithms for experimental data processing using a contactless video system Vic-3D, designed for three-dimension analysis of displacement and strain fields, and digital image correlation method. The…

Investigation via morphological analysis of aluminium foams produced by replication casting

A. Boschetto, L. Bottini, F. Campana, L. Consorti, D. Pilone

Foams and porous materials with cellular structure have many interesting combinations of physical and mechanical properties coupled with low specific weight. By means of replication casting it is possible to manufacture foams from molten…

Mechanical characterization and crack propagation in Additively Manufactured Polymers using Digital Image Correlation: a review

Taoufik Hachimi, Najat Zekriti, Fouad Ait Hmazi, Hamza Bagar, Hatim El Assad, Nassima Naboulsi

While Additive Manufacturing (AM) of polymers has matured from rapid prototyping to functional production, the layer-wise fabrication process introduces significant mechanical anisotropy and microstructural heterogeneity, which complicates…

Automatic detection of concrete cracks from images using Adam-SqueezeNet deep learning model

Lin Wang

Cracks on concrete surface are typically clear warning signs of a potential threat to the integrity and serviceability of structure. The techniques based on image processing can effectively detect the cracks from images. These techniques…

Computer Vision Algorithm for the detection of fracture cracks in Oil Hardening Non-Shrinking (OHNS) die steel after machining process

Akshansh Mishra, Vijaykumar S Jatti, Nitin K Khedkar, Rahul B. Dhabale, Ashwini V Jatti

A variant of neural network for processing with images is a convolutional neural network (CNN). This type of neural network receives input from an image and extracts features from the image while also providing learnable parameters to…

High-quality nodule analysis in spheroidal graphite cast iron using X-ray micro-computed tomography

This work is a continuation of the studies presented in a recent paper by the authors, where a methodology to obtain different nodule quality categories in spheroidal graphite cast iron, was proposed. In this study, an exhaustive analysis…

Nonlinearity of mechanical behavior of 3D-reinforced composites under compression

Stanislav Slovikov, Andrey Babushkin, Maria Gusina

Modern technological capabilities make it possible to produce 3D spatially-reinforced for polymer composite materials. The tasks of experimental research and analysis of the deformation process of new composite materials for aviation…

Using the wavelet transform to process data from experimental studies of the discontinuous plastic deformation effect

Evgeniia Chechulina, Peter Trusov

Vast number of theoretical and experimental works has been devoted to the study of discontinuous plastic deformation (the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect), which manifests itself for most widely used alloys in certain ranges of both…

Relationship between microscopic analysis and quantitative and qualitative indicators of moisture susceptibility evaluation of warm-mix asphalt mixtures containing modifiers

Pooyan Farazmand, Parham Hayati, Hamid Shaker, Sajad Rezaei

Given the defects of bitumen in asphalt mixtures particularly exposed to moisture, this study mainly aims to investigate the relationship between qualitative and quantitative results of moisture susceptibility tests on asphalt mixtures…

Wavelet-based multiresolution analysis coupled with deep learning to efficiently monitor cracks in concrete

Ahcene Arbaoui, Abdeldjalil Ouahabi, Sebastien Jacques, Madina Hamiane

This paper proposes an efficient methodology to monitor the formation of cracks in concrete after non-destructive ultrasonic testing of a structure. The objective is to be able to automatically detect the initiation of cracks early enough…

Post- Impact Fatigue Damage Analysis of Quasi Isotropic CFRP Laminates through Infrared Thermography

Raghu Vasu Prakash, Mathew John

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials used for lightweight aircraft structures are susceptible to low velocity accidental impacts during manufacture and while in service. In this study the CFRP laminates subjected to low…

A novel algorithm for crack path identification based on infrared images

Luca Romanin, Alexei Vinogradov, Filippo Berto, Paolo Ferro

The present work aims at developing a new approach towards the analysis of the crack path through the access to the information from the infrared (IR) video imaging of the steady fatigue crack growth. We first test some commonly available…
