Al6061 and its composites are widely employed in applications requiring high strength and impact resistance. Heat treatment, particularly ageing, is a well-established method for enhancing the mechanical properties of these composites.…
Safety Impact resistance is defined as the ability of a material to absorb impact energy through controlled failure mechanism. The greater the energy absorption by the crash safety structure, the greater the safety in preventing…
Impact resistance and energy absorbing capability are of great interest in the design of composite sandwich structures. This paper experimentally studies damage, failure and energy absorption properties of foam core sandwich panels with…
Recently, engineering blasting is widely applied in projects such as rock mineral mining, construction of underground cavities and field-leveling excavation. Dynamic mechanical performance of rocks has been gradually attached importance…
There is a tremendous increase in the use of high strength and high performance self-consolidating cementitious composites due to their superior workability and mechanical strengths. Cement composites are quasi-brittle in nature and…
The composites, used in the transportation engineering, include different classes with a wide range of materials and properties within each type. The following different typologies of composites have been investigated: laminated…
There is growing interest in the use of self-consolidating cementitious systems in construction industry. The present research was conducted to enhance the mechanical performance of cement composites by the utilization of micro-sized inert…
Despite the growing diffusion of composite materials in automotive and aerospace sectors, a standard procedure for testing their crashworthiness has not been developed yet. At present, the international standards for testing composite…
Concrete developed from light expanded clay aggregate (LECA) and glass fiber has good performance, durability, and sustainability. Towards this, the experimental investigation was designed to study cubes, cylinders, and simply supported…
Up to this moment, there is no guideline regarding the materials to produce mouthguards. The most used is Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA). Studies indicate that laminating EVA sheets with rigid components could increase the protection…
In this work, the effects of natural particles on the micro failure mechanisms and static strength of an epoxy are studied using scanning electron microscope (SEM) technique. To this end, bulk specimens and adhesively bonded single lap…
A present study reveals the influence of nano Al2O3 and ZrO2 reinforcements on the fracture toughness of Hybrid Metal matrix Composites (HMMCs) made of Al6061 alloy. Composites are synthesized by varying weight fraction of alumina and…
Base isolation is a widely-used method used to minimise the harmful effects of earthquakes on buildings. Unlike a fixed base building, a building with a base isolation system essentially decouples the superstructure from the substructure…
This work presents experimental and numerical research to evaluate the compression confinement techniques of HSC beams reinforced with different ratios of high-strength steel reinforcement. Twelve specimens of high-strength reinforced…
This study investigates jute fibre reinforced epoxy composites fabricated using a controlled vacuum bag moulding process, with emphasis on establishing reliable structure property relationships relevant to sustainable engineering…
The paper presents an experimental investigation of the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beam elements strengthened externally with stainless steel wire mesh (SSWM). SSWM has the potential to be an alternative composite…
This study investigates the effects of low concentration (0.1-0.4 wt.%) nano-boron carbide (B4C) reinforcement on the mechanical, thermal and fracture properties of epoxy nanocomposites. The nanocomposites were prepared via solution…
The use of crushed limestone sand in the concrete industry will be quite possible and imperative for environmental reasons. Many researchers around the world have found that concrete based on 50% substitution of river sand by limestone…
The objective of this study is to analyze the performance of composite bonding repair, hole drilling and the combination of the two techniques (hybrid repairs) by tensile tests and to show the interest of a hybrid repair versus to other…
Reinforced concrete (RC) columns cannot get supreme confinement by using the customary steel stirrups reinforcement because of the requirements for the spacing distances between the stirrups in addition to concrete continuance trouble. For…
