Influence of local stress concentrations on the crack propagation in complex welded components

C. Fischer, W. Fricke

While a long stable crack propagation phase was observed during experiments of complex welded components, very conservative assessments of the fatigue life were achieved in the past. The difference was explained by the stress gradient…

Validation of Notch-Stress Intensity Factor, Strain Energy Density and Effective Notch Stress approaches in fatigue life assessment of austenitic steel welded joints

Santi Marchetta, Pasqualino Corigliano, Giulia Palomba, Giacomo Risitano, Dario Santonocito

The purpose of this work is to validate the N-SIF, SED and ENS approaches for the fatigue design of austenitic stainless steel welded joints. Literature fatigue data for cruciform welded joints, originally expressed in terms of nominal…

High cycle fatigue assessment of steel load-carrying cruciform welded joints: an overview of recent results

song wei, Xuesong Liu

In this paper, high cycle fatigue failure behavior of Load-carrying Cruciform Welded Joints (LCWJ) is assessed using Strain Energy Density (SED) approach. Different analytical solutions are proposed and applied to illustrate the effects of…
