The paper contains plane strain analysis of uniformly stretched plate working in creep condition. The plate contains initial defects in forms of central and/or edge cracks working in mode I. These cracks are modelled by attributing…
In this paper, the macro and micro-mechanical fracture behavior was studied for aluminum (Al6061) alloy matrix, reinforced with various proportions of TiC particles such as 3wt%, 5wt% and 7wt%. The Al6061-TiC metal matrix composites were…
The fracture process zone (FPZ) was investigated on unnotched and notched beams with different notch depths. Three point bending tests were realized on plain concrete under crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) control. Crack growth was…
In stress analysis of cracked plates, alongside the stress intensity factor which quantifies the singular stress component perpendicular to the crack plane, the role played in crack growth by the constant term parallel to the crack plane…
An analytical study of longitudinal fracture in two-dimensional functionally graded cantilever beam configurations is carried-out with taking into account the non-linear behavior of material. A longitudinal crack is located arbitrary along…
In this work, a consistent formulation for the representation of concrete behavior before and after cracking has been implemented into a non-linear model for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures, named 2D-PARC. Several researches…
Most research on the mode II fracture toughness of fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) has intentionally avoided bridging fibers at pre-notch surfaces by using a through-thickness crack (TTC) that cuts the entire thickness, including fibers in…
This research investigates cracking in Reinforced Concrete Structures (RCS), particularly in bridge abutments, box girders, and culverts. Cracks often appear even after the concrete has reached its full strength. The current American…
The delamination fracture in four-point bending beams made of adhesively bonded lengthwise vertical layers is studied assuming that each layer exhibits smooth material inhomogeneity along the width and length of the layer. The study aims…
In Peru, research on cracking in concrete slabs has been limited, partly due to the perception that cracks do not pose an immediate problem. However, their cumulative effect over the long term can compromise structural durability…
When the width of cracked nanocomponents made of brittle or quasi-brittle materials is less than approximately , the size of the - dominance zone becomes smaller than and comparable to the fracture process zone ( ). The fracture process…
In this work, the prediction of crack initiation angle (θo) under mixed mode (I/II) load is estimated from the generalized minimum plastic zone radius (GMPZR) criterion. The paper presents a detailed study on the crack-tip plastic core for…
Three-dimensional elastic-plastic problems for a power-law hardening material are solved using the finite element method. Distributions of the J-integral and constraint parameter A along the crack front for varying specimen thickness and…
Adding fibres to concrete provides several advantages, especially in terms of controlling the crack opening width and propagation after the cracking onset. However, distribution and orientation of the fibres toward the active crack plane…
Analyses of longitudinal fracture behavior of inhomogeneous beams which have continuously varying sizes of the cross-section along the beam length are carried-out. Beams of a rectangular cross-section are studied. It is assumed that beams…
In the present work, the fracture performance of pre-cracked reinforced concrete beams was investigated numerically and experimentally. Experimental and numerical programs were designed to examine the effect of beam width, b, (120 and 250…
Main aim of this work is to investigate the influences of the addition of cenosphere and specimen crack length on the fracture toughness of Al6061-SiC composites. The experimental analysis was carried out for 3, 6 and 9 wt% proportions of…
The objective of this research work is to study the fracture behavior of Al6061 with graphite particulate composite produced by the stir casting technique. For the study different composition of the particulate metal matrix composite used…
The investigation of multiple crack interactions in fracture mechanics is important to predict the safety and reliability of structures. This paper introduces a numerical investigation used to calculate the J-integral of the main crack…
Since the last two centuries, concrete has become the number one building material in the world. Therefore, we are interested in studying the mechanical behavior at failure of this material and calculate its toughness. In this paper, we…
Plastic η factor is adopted to account crack tip plasticity while evaluating the fracture toughness of the materials as per ASTM E1820. It is valid only for homogeneous materials. The plastic η factor for compact tension geometry (CT) with…
