Layered ceramic materials (also referred to as “ceramic laminates”) are becoming one of the most promising areas of materials technology aiming to improve the brittle behavior of bulk ceramics. The utilization of tailored compressive…
The present work has investigated the fracture toughness of a model DGEBA epoxy system subject to Hidro-Thermal aging. A Photoelastic Stress Analysis technique has been implemented, showing the evolution of stresses arising throughout the…
A computational formulation able to simulate crack initiation and growth in layered structural systems is proposed. In order to identify the position of the onset interfacial defects and their dynamic debonding mechanisms, a moving mesh…
In this paper Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is used to study the evolution of the plastic zone close to a crack tip. A modified CT-specimen was used in order to fulfill the plane stress condition. The strain field around the crack tip…
The question about the existence of a correlation between the parameters C and m of the Paris’ law is re-examined in this paper. According to dimensional analysis and incomplete self-similarity concepts applied to the linear range of…
Adding fibres to concrete provides several advantages, especially in terms of controlling the crack opening width and propagation after the cracking onset. However, distribution and orientation of the fibres toward the active crack plane…
Finite Fracture Mechanics and Cohesive Crack Model can effectively predict the strength of plain, cracked or notched structural components, overcoming the classical drawbacks of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics. Aim of the present work is…
In the case of particle reinforced composites, where the particles are in a form of sharp material inclusions, singular stress concentration exists on each tip of each inclusion. This is due to the geometric and material discontinuities…
The paper is aimed at the indicative evaluation of the effect of random scatter of input parameters in case of durability of reinforced concrete bridge deck. The time to onset of corrosion of steel reinforcement of concrete bridge deck…
A detailed investigation was conducted into the fracture mechanisms of cylindrical specimens made of a polycrystalline heat-resistant nickel-based alloy XH73MBTU-VD (EI698-VD), under uniaxial tension in the temperature range of 25–700°C.…
Phase-field models have become a powerful tool to simulate crack propagation. They regularize the fracture discontinuity and smooth the transition between the intact and the damaged regions. Based on the thermodynamic function and a…
