Probabilistic geotechnical engineering analysis based on first order reliability method

Georgios Belokas

Limit equilibrium engineering analysis needs the incorporation of probabilistic approaches for the determination of soil strength statistical measures for deterministic and probabilistic analyses. For the commonly used Mohr–Coulomb…

Selecting the objective function during the inverse identification of the parameters of a material model of concrete

F. Hokes, J. Kala

Selecting the correct objective function is the critical precondition for a successful optimization task. The validity of this condition is also required when optimization algorithms are needed for the inverse identification of the unknown…

3D-mixed-mode-loading: material characteristic values and criteria’s validity

H. A. Richard, A. Eberlein

In many structures and components cracks, which are exposed to a 3D-mixed-mode-loading, occur due to multiaxial loading situation. A reliable evaluation of those components requires fracture mechanical criteria validated by experimental…

Experimental investigation of crack initiation and propagation in high- and gigacycle fatigue in titanium alloys by study of morphology of fracture

M.V. Bannikov, O. B. Naimark, V.A. Oborin

Fatigue (high- and gigacycle) crack initiation and its propagation in titanium alloys with coarse and fine grain structure are studied by fractography analysis of fracture surface. Fractured specimens were analyzed by interferometer…

The impact of the temperature and exploitation time on the tensile properties and plain strain fracture toughness, KIc in characteristic areas of welded joint

Simon Sedmak, Ivica Čamagić, Aleksandar Sedmak, Zijah Burzić, Mihajlo Aranđelović

This paper presents the analysis of the temperature and exploitation time impact on the resistant measure to brittle fracture of welded joint constituents of the new and exploited low-alloyed Cr-Mo steel A-387 Gr. B from the aspect of…

Analytical and numerical analysis on the collapse modes of least-thickness circular masonry arches at decreasing friction

Giuseppe Cocchetti, Egidio Rizzi

Departing from pioneering Heyman modern rational investigations on the purely-rotational collapse mode of least-thickness circular masonry arches, the hypothesis that joint friction shall be high enough to prevent inter-block sliding is…

15-15Ti(Si) austenitic steel: creep behaviour in hostile environment

Alessandra Strafella, Antonino Coglitore, Paride Fabbri, Elena Salernitano

This work aims at studying the creep behaviour of 15-15Ti(Si) austenitic steel, under uniaxial stress (range of 300-560 MPa), and its interaction with liquid lead. The steel was tested to verify its sensitivity to Liquid Metal…

Continuum damage modeling through theoretical and experimental pressure limit formulas

Fatima Majid, Mohamed Elghorba

In this paper, we developed a mathematical modeling to represent the damage of thermoplastic pipes. On the one hand, we adapted the theories of the rupture pressure to fit the High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) case. Indeed, the theories for…
