Scaling of compression strength in disordered solids: metallic foams

J. Ková?ik, J. Jerz, N. Mináriková, L. Marsavina, E. Linul

The scaling of compression strength with porosity for aluminium foams was investigated. The Al 99.96, AlMg1Si0.6 and AlSi11Mg0.6 foams of various porosity, sample size with and without surface skin were tested in compression. It was…

Investigation via morphological analysis of aluminium foams produced by replication casting

A. Boschetto, L. Bottini, F. Campana, L. Consorti, D. Pilone

Foams and porous materials with cellular structure have many interesting combinations of physical and mechanical properties coupled with low specific weight. By means of replication casting it is possible to manufacture foams from molten…

Metal foaming by powder metallurgy process: investigation of different parameters on the foaming efficiency

Ioannis Papantoniou, Helena Kyriakopoulou, Dimitrios Pantelis, Dimitrios Manolakos

Aluminium foams, produced by powder metallurgy process, have significant potential applications for uses in weight-sensitive structural parts. Problems in the production of metal foams arise from the lack of knowledge in the control of…
